UConn's Auriemma, UNC's Hatchell earn 1,000th wins

North Carolina's Sylvia Hatchell and Connecticut's Geno Auriemma became the third and fourth coaches in Division I women's basketball history to win 1,000 games Tuesday.
Hatchell reached the milestone Tuesday afternoon when the Tar Heels defeated Grambling State 79-63 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Auriemma joined her Tuesday night when the top-ranked Huskies defeated Oklahoma 88-64 in Uncasville, Conn.
Hatchell and Auriemma joined the late Pat Summitt of Tennessee (1,098 victories) and Stanford's Tara VanDerveer (1,018) on the women's side, while Duke's Mike Krzyzewski (1,082) is the lone men's coach to officially reach the milestone.
Hatchell owns a 1,000-376 record, with 728 of those wins coming during her 32 seasons at North Carolina. She also netted 272 victories in 11 seasons with Francis Marion in South Carolina.
Hatchell led her teams to three major championships: AIAW (1982), NAIA (1986) and NCAA (1994).
Auriemma, 63, is an eye-popping 1,000-135 -- all at Connecticut. The Huskies have won 11 national championships and have reached the Final Four in 18 straight seasons. UConn has posted six perfect seasons -- the last in 2014-15.
The Huskies have not lost back-to-back games since 1993.
Both Auriemma and Hatchell are members of the Basketball Hall of Fame
