Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving and participating in an illegal speed contest related to a drag racing incident in his Jaguar.
All three charges are misdemeanors in New York.
Head coach Doug Marrone said the 2013 Pro Bowl selection is not returning to the team's organized team activities while the team tries to get him "on the right track."
"I believe in Marcell," Marrone said.
Dareus said last month that the Bills know he's not a "trouble guy" but he also faces charges for a possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Dareus was arraigned and released on his own recognizance by Hamburg (N.Y.) police for last week's drag-racing incident.
Hamburg Town police said the event took place at 3:16 p.m. Friday after an anonymous caller lodged "a complaint of two vehicles, a black Camaro or Mustang, and a light colored vehicle, traveling westbound on Route 179 near McKinley Parkway, possibly racing."
A second officer received a call a short time later that a "white vehicle” crashed near a crowded restaurant, where the white Jaguar Dareus was operating had struck a tree near the Mongolian Buffet entrance
