The lastest casualty from Sunday's Toronto-Buffalo exhibition-game brawl is Sabres forward Corey Tropp.
Tropp sustained a broken jaw in a fight with Jamie Devane of the Maple Leafs and underwent surgery, the team announced Wednesday. Tropp is expected to miss five to six weeks.
The fight resulted in more than 200 penalty minutes and also fines and suspensions.
The 6-foot-5, 217-pound Devane said he didn't initiate the fight, but the Sabres disagreed. Buffalo coach Ron Rolston blamed Devane and was upset that Tropp was knocked out in the skirmish.
The 24-year-old Tropp had hoped to make the team out of training camp. He missed all of last season after suffering a knee injury in October while playing for Rochester in its AHL opener.
Tropp made his NHL debut during the 2011-12 season and finished with eight points in 34 games
