Summerhays' 65 just off Oakmont record

OAKMONT, Pa. -- Daniel Summerhays' 5-under-par 65 in Friday's second round was the best of the weekend thus far at the 116th U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
It was Summerhays' best round in a major, topping his 67 at last year's U.S. Open.
Summerhays shot an even-par 35 on the front nine before dropping five birdies on seven holes from Nos. 11-17. His 65 is two off Johnny Miller's course-record 63 in the 1973 U.S. Open.
He is currently tied for seventh at 2 under after opening the tournament with a 74.
The 32-year-old Farmington, Utah, native hasn't finished higher than tied for 13th (twice) on tour in 2016. He is ranked 102nd in the world and 68th in the FedExCup standings (550 points).
His best finish in a major also came at last year's Open when he tied for 27th place
