01/07/19 - Iowa State two-time All-American running back David Montgomery, who became the eighth player in school history with multiple 1,000-yard rushing seasons this fall, decided today he will enter his name for the 2019 NFL Draft and forgo his final season of eligibility at Iowa State. Montgomery announced his decision on Twitter this morning. "The last three years have been nothing short of amazing," Montgomery wrote via Twitter. "From the first day I stepped onto campus in Ames, it has felt like home. From the roar of the crowd at Jack Trice Stadium, to the quiet of studying for exams, to the warmth that has been shown to me by Cyclone fans, I could not have asked for anything better than my experience at Iowa State. It has truly been the best decision of my life."

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Montgomery was a key part of Iowa State's resurgence on the gridiron the past two seasons, helping the Cyclones to back-to-back 8-5 marks with his dependability and durability in the backfield. The two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection ranked third in the Big 12 and 23rd nationally in rushing, averaging 101.3 rushing yards in 12 games in 2018. He reached the 100-yard mark seven times during the season, tying for third on ISU's season list, and led the team with 13 touchdowns. - Iowa State Football

10/14/18 - It was arguably West Virginia's biggest test, on the road at night against a plucky Iowa State team with a stifling defense and a dangerous young quarterback. The sixth-ranked Mountaineers failed miserably. Freshman Brock Purdy threw for 254 yards and three TDs and Iowa State throttled West Virginia 30-14 on Saturday, handing the Mountaineers their first loss in emphatic fashion. David Montgomery had a career-high 189 yards rushing for the Cyclones (3-3, 2-2 Big 12), who capped a wild day by beating a Top 25 team for the fifth time in seven tries after dropping 20 in a row to ranked teams. Iowa State held the Mountaineers to 152 yards overall and zero points in the second half. "They didn't come up with a magical defense to stop what we were doing," West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen said. "We didn't do anything right. We didn't make plays, we didn't keep our eyes where they needed to be. We didn't run fast, we didn't get off coverage, we didn't make good decisions. We didn't call good plays, we didn't tackle them, we didn't block."

The only solace for West Virginia (5-1, 3-1) was that it was the fourth Top 10 team to fall Saturday. LSU pounded No. 2 Georgia 36-16, No. 7 Washington fell 30-27 in overtime at No. 17 Oregon, and No. 8 Penn State lost to Michigan State 21-17. Iowa State scored 20 straight points after spotting West Virginia an early touchdown off a turnover. Purdy, in his first career start, then found Deshaunte Jones through a pair of defenders on a sprawling 32-yard TD grab that put Iowa State ahead 28-14 with 12:17 to go. - AP College Football

10/02/18 - RB David Montgomery passed the 2,000 rushing yards mark for his career last week and continues to excel despite the fact that he's playing while hurt. The dilemma for the coaching staff is that he's too valuable to sit and heal, as the team needs every win it can get to make the postseason, but the upper arm injury isn't getting any better. Even with a limited workload, his skill as both a runner and pass catcher makes Montgomery a player to watch for NFL scouts.
09/26/18 - RB David Montgomery finished with 107 yards and a rushing touchdown against Akron, but those numbers won't impress NFL scouts. What will is the ability he showed at breaking tackles and getting yards after the initial hit. It's his ability to stay low, keep moving forward and move the chains that give him a chance to be a difference-maker in the pros.
09/20/18 - RB David Montgomery had 28 yards and a touchdown on his 21 carries against Oklahoma. He also got the ball out of the Wildcat formation, which had mixed success but will likely be a part of the offense again this week against Akron.
